PharmAust has hit a major milestone, signing a landmark deal with US pharmaceutical giant Elanco to develop the company's promising anti-cancer drug “Monepantel”. The deal will see Elanco supply PharmAust with high-grade Monepantel for use in clinical trials in dogs with cancer and in return Pharmaust will grant Elenco an option to negotiate a deal to take Pharmaust's IP to the global market.

Perth-based biotech company PharmAust has announced a set of tail wagging results from tests conducted on dogs with cancer who were given PharmAust's promising development drug Monepantel, or MPL, which stabilised the spread of the disease in the animals. 6 of the 7 dogs tested experienced a reduction in tumour size over a two week period when administered with MPL.

PharmAust's acquisition last month of a library of compounds from a major Japanese pharmaceutical company is looking like a shrewd move. Initial tests show some of the newly acquired compounds can kill cancer cells grown in-vitro up to six times more effectively than the parent compound, Monepantel, which is Pharmaust's flagship anti-cancer drug.

Perth based medical research pioneer Epichem, a wholly owned subsidiary of ASX listed PharmAust, has posted record revenues for FY17 on the back of growth across all of its business divisions. PharmAust said Epichem generated a best-ever revenue result of $3.05m for the 12 months to June, up by 30 per cent when compared to the previous year.

ASX listed PharmAust has named Dr Richard Hopkins as the company's new chief executive. Hopkins was previously running Perth biotech company Phylogica Limited and will start as PharmAust CEO on March 7.
