Over 40 years ago, a small group of WA service station owners decided there was a better way to succeed in business and stay independent. By working together to form Capricorn, they helped other small businesses in the automotive aftermarket manage the economic and social challenges of business ownership.
Today, Capricorn Members benefit from transacting using one account and getting instant credit with Capricorn Preferred Suppliers – resulting in $1.8 billion annually in parts sales.
Capricorn is not just about parts sales. Members get access to technical service data and other business tools to help run and boost their business. Capricorn also offers Members risk protection, insurance broking, equipment finance, access to one of Australasia’s most generous rewards program, travel and networking events ranging from an International Convention, 1200 plus Member Gala Dinners to a local BBQ with something happening almost every week.
It is an exciting time for Capricorn and its Members. Organisations need to increase their awareness of potential disruptors in our dynamic world. The modern car itself, contains millions more lines of code than a passenger aircraft. The automotive industry has already been recognised as being the subject of significant forces of change - it will become more scanner than spanner. The emergence of Electric vehicles, vehicles being driverless and the widespread use of artificial intelligence will impact all of us.
It can be difficult for businesses to make sense of this ‘new world’. To assist our cooperative, Capricorn has commenced a scenario planning exercise to explore both the opportunities and risks that may emerge for Capricorn, our Members and Preferred Suppliers. As this work evolves we intend to take them on the journey to assist them to consider their options in a faster moving digital and connected world.
One thing that won’t change in the future – great people working toward a common purpose will remain unstoppable. What better place to make this happen than a cooperative!
