Regis Resources has appointed Michael Holmes as chief operating officer, succeeding Stuart Gula from November 1. Mr Holmes has more than 30 years of experience as a mining engineer and has worked across the world in Australia, New Zealand, Philippines, North America and South America. Mr Holmes served as OceanaGold Corporation chief operating officer and later as president from 2012 to 2021. He most recently worked as Australian Mines chief executive. Mr Gula joined Regis as chief operating officer in December 2019.
The Grain Industry Association of Western Australia has promoted deputy chair Tress Walmsley to chair, replacing Lyndon Mickel who has stepped down from the position. Ms Walmsley has more than 20 years of experience in agribusiness and has worked as InterGrain chief executive since 2012. Prior to joining InterGrain, Ms Walmsley served in a variety of roles at the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development over a decade. She also serves as Australian Crop Breeders chair, Grains Australia Barley and Oats Council member and Chemistry Centre WA director.
Paula Wilkinson has been elected as Law Society of Western Australia president effective January 2024, in an elevation from her current position as senior vice president. Ms Wilkinson is a founding director and solicitor of Kim Wilson and Co Family Lawyers, which was established in 1998. She has also served as an adjunct lecturer at NSW College of Laws for the past 12 years.
Former premier Mark McGowan has added to his portfolio of post-politics business jobs, accepting advisory roles with former Australian treasurer Joe Hockey and ‘rich lister’ Megan Wynne. Mr McGowan will be a senior adviser with Mr Hockey’s firm Bondi Partners and has joined the advisory board at ASX company APM Human Services International.
Peta Slocombe and Kaylene Gulich have been appointed to the WA Institute of Sport board. Ms Slocombe is a psychologist with 25 years’ experience in mental health, human behaviour and culture and serves as Performance Story chief executive. Ms Gulich has worked as Western Australian Treasury Corporation chief executive for the past five years.
Lynas Rare Earths chairman Kathleen Conlon will retire after 12 years with the listed company. Ms Conlon joined Lynas as non-executive director in 2011 and has been the chair since 2020. Ms Conlon will step down on November 29 with John Humphrey, who joined the board in May 2017, will succeed as chair.
Qantas chairman Richard Goyder will leave the national carrier before the end of 2024 following public scrutiny and as part of a board revamp to address reputational issues. Mr Goyder joined Qantas in 2018 and also leads the boards of Woodside Energy, Channel 7 Telethon Trust, West Australian Symphony Orchestra and AFL Commission.
