KISS principle tackles BAS

A SPECIALIST GST firm has developed a way to simplify the Business Activity Statement.

The KISS system, for Keep It Simple Stupid, means the firm’s clients will not have to buy new computers and accounting software to use it.

Fallon Group partner Tony Ince said the crux of the system relied on an hour to hour and a half meeting between his company’s staff and the client.

That meeting flags any special GST issues that need to be taken into account.

The Fallon Group then takes over the management of the client’s cashbook, which contains most of the information needed to fill out the BAS.

The firm accesses the client’s bank details each month and sets up a system to simplify record keeping. It uses software it created to pull all of this information together.

At the end of each quarter the client needs to spend about 10 to 15 minutes to explain what each cheque was for.
