Achieving Indigenous Targets
Indigenous Series, Part 3
Overview
Federal Minister for Indigenous Affairs, Hon Jenny Macklin MP, will give CEDA an exclusive update on how the Government is progressing towards achieving its six key Indigenous targets.
In a bid to improve living standards for Indigenous Australians, the Government set the following six targets in February 2008:
- Closing the gap on life expectancy within a generation
- Halving the gap in mortality for children under five within a decade
- All four-year-olds in remote communities will have access to early childhood education within five years
- Halve the gap for children in reading, writing and numeracy within a decade
- Halve the gap for Indigenous students in Year 12 attainment (or equivalent) by 2020
- Halve the gap in employment outcomes within a decade
Four years later, and with $8.2 billion spent on Indigenous-specific National Partnership Agreements, how is the Federal Government tracking against each of these targets? How are other influencing bodies contributing to Indigenous outcomes?
Join CEDA and our panel of Indigenous champions for this significant discussion.
