Australia's Energy Future- Energy Futures Series, Part 1
Join CEDA as the Federal Minister for Resources and Energy, Hon. Martin Ferguson AM MP, discusses Australia’s energy framework.
The Federal Government is facing a turning point in determining Australia’s energy future. The introduction of the hotly contested Carbon Tax, along with the Mining Resource Rent Tax, comes at a time when Australia’s continued economic and population growth will see the demand for affordable and reliable energy increase rapidly. What impacts will these new policies bring to bear? Will Australia’s energy production remain competitive in a global sense?
The draft Energy White Paper, launched via CEDA in December 2011, identified the development of Australia’s clean energy outcomes and future energy resources as a priority. Strengthening energy policy framework and re-invigorating the energy market reform agenda were also primary concerns. However, with public consultation still underway, how does the Government intend on delivering energy security, whilst facilitating an environment for economic development, and still meet Australia's clean energy goals?
