One of the great achievements of human kind has been a dramatic rise in age expectancy over the past century. Yet, while living longer is a positive trend that is delivering new opportunities for individuals and society, there is also concern that longer life expectancies combined with declining birth rates, will have a negative impact on future economic output, on society, and on government expenditure.

As part of our latest research project, Bigger & Better Beyond the Boom, the Committee for Perth has examined WA's ageing population and will specifically articulate the broad, predicted impacts of ageing on the economy including the workforce, public spending and society. At our next Perth in Focus luncheon, the Committee will release its latest FACTBase Bulletin ‘Sizing Ageing in Western Australia’ and CEO Marion Fulker will share the key findings. After the keynote address, there will be a Q&A panel session with local service providers, who will reflect on the research as well as the opportunities and challenges arising from an ageing population.
