NFP Update: Hot Topics in a Changing Environment

In 2013-14, there were approximately 57,000 economically significant not-for-profit (NFP) organisations employing over one million people. The Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission (ACNC’s) report on charities show within the charity sector alone it turnsover approximately $100bn.
Our 2014 NFP Governance and Performance Study is the most comprehensive source of information on the governance of NFP organisations in Australia. More than 2,700 current NFP directors answered the questionnaire, making it the largest study of its kind in Australia. A range of themes emerged from the study and subsequent focus groups, including:

• Financial sustainability
• Having the appropriate performance indicators
• Collaborations and mergers
• Board succession planning
