The AMEC Convention 2012 is expected to draw large crowds with outstanding keynote speakers and the largest trade exhibition ever showcased at the AMEC Convention.

The three day event, organised by the Association of Mining and Exploration Companies, will be held at the Burswood Convention Centre, Perth, Western Australia and run from the 4 – 6 September 2012.

A key highlight this year will be the Convention Opening Ceremony with Hon Julia Gillard, Prime Minister of Australia officially opening the event. Prime Minister Gillard is pleased to be opening this year’s AMEC Convention, and is looking forward to being part of such an important event for the mining and mineral exploration sector.

Hon Norman Moore, Minister for Mines and Petroleum WA, will also feature in the Convention Opening Ceremony with an address welcoming delegates to Western Australia and updating attendees on what’s been happening in the region over the past 12 months.

Key topics presented at this year’s convention will include commodity forecasts, global economic trends, updates on state and federal legislation and workforce issues.

Keynote speakers include Leigh Clifford AO, Chairman of Qantas Airways Limited and Former CEO, Rio Tinto Group; Grey Egerton-Warburton, Head of Corporate Finance, Hartleys; and Peter van Onselen, Contributing Editor, The Australian.

A large exhibition area will also feature at the convention with over 80 companies already booked to participate in the event. The exhibition will consist of small and emerging mining companies, junior mineral exploration companies and service providers to the industry.

The 2012 AMEC Convention will be an excellent forum for delegates to come together and share their views and ideas whilst meeting and networking with other industry figures.

AMEC CEO Simon Bennison said “I am delighted with the response we have already had to this year’s convention and expect the event to attract more attendees than previous years. I think the programme will appeal to both national and international delegates and I look forward to this year’s event being the most successful yet”.

Delegates will also gather to enjoy some of the networking events surrounding the AMEC Convention including a cocktail event on Tuesday 4 September and the AMEC Gala Awards Dinner on Wednesday 5 September.
