A delegation of eight WA-based defence businesses will head to London this week to showcase their products on the world stage alongside Defence Industry Minister Paul Papalia.
The group will attend the Defence and Security Equipment International exhibition, with the aim of expanding business collaboration opportunities with global partners.
The eight businesses are Myaree-based AVI, Belmont’s Blacktree Technology, Blue Ocean Marine Tech Systems and Onetide from Bibra Lake, Critical Infrastructure Technology, West Perth-based DUG Technology, Radlink Communications and Bassendean’s TraumaSim.
Mr Papalia said the companies, which offer a range of defence-focused services, hardware and software platforms, would get the chance to take part in an international business forum allowing high-level corporate networking and supplier discussions.
“The Defence and Security Equipment International expo presents an incredible opportunity for Western Australian companies to impress and grow business opportunities with international partners,” he said.
“WA Businesses are often world-leaders when it comes to the creation of innovative and emerging technologies because of the expertise and skills developed through servicing the state’s thriving mining sector.
“From autonomous underwater vehicles to rapidly deployable communications towers, and medically accurate training aids, the travelling businesses will showcase their unique products to global industry leaders.”
Mr Papalia will also use the trip to visit Royal Navy sustainment operations ahead of WA’s capability enhancement in preparation for its participation in AUKUS Submarine Rotational Force-West.
Under the initiative, the state will have a rotational presence of nuclear-powered submarines at HMAS Stirling as early as 2027.
“During the trip, I’ll be investigating the best ways WA can grow its workforce and infrastructure to meet the needs of the AUKUS agreement,” Mr Papalia said.
The bi-annual Defence and Security Equipment International expo is the largest defence and security expo in Europe.
This year’s event will feature more than 1,500 exhibitors from all over the world, highlighting defence and technology growth areas, as well as the development of new technologies.
