Fish a winner in cattle country
A CARNARVON woman who breeds fish in what is traditionally cattle country has been named Western Australia’s Rural Woman of the Year.
Di Morrison won the Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation’s award for her approach to diversification.
Ms Morrison grows exotic aquarium fish in saline artesian water in the isolated arid pastoral region of the Gascoyne.
She will use her $15,000 award bursary to research the ability of egg-laying ornamental goldfish to spawn, the ability of different species of ornamental catfish to thrive in low saline artesian water and the effective use of wastewater.
