THE Perth Convention Bureau has recruited a ‘Dream Team’ of leading Perth identities to market WA as a convention and incentive travel destination.
The team was recently announced at a function at Council House by Lord Mayor Peter Nattrass, who has accepted the role of chief ambassador.
Included in those accepting roles as honorary ambassadors are Wesfarmers managing director Michael Chaney, Heytesbury executive chairman Janet Holmes a Court, Multiplex chairman and chief executive John Roberts, Bankwest managing director Terry Budge and WA Chinese Chamber of Commerce president Simon Lee.
The 2001 marketing campaign has been launched nationally by the Australian Tourist Commission to capitalise on the nation’s global profile following the Sydney Olympics.
Bureau chairman Richard Campbell said the team would give the campaign the profile it needs to ensure success in generating business events for WA.
“In committing to become ambassadors they have all agreed to be the catalyst in bringing a national or international meeting to WA in 2001,” he said.
“They have agreed to ‘shoulder tap’ five of their colleagues and encourage them to consider hosting or attracting a meeting here.”
