A MARATHON judges’ meeting last week determined WA’s 40 up-and-coming business leaders of tomorrow.
In a meeting lasting more than four hours, the 11 judges agreed on the final group of 40 business achievers and chose the First Amongst Equals winner.
The winner of the First Amongst Equals award was considered by the judges to be the most outstanding candidate in an already exceptional group of people.
The 40 under 40 and the First Amongst Equals will be announced on Wednesday February 13 at a gala dinner function at Fraser’s Restaurant.
Chairman of judges, Business News news editor Mark Pownall, said the hardest job had been selecting a First Amongst Equals from such a strong field.
“It’s a good sign when there is such stiff competition,” Mr Pownall said.
“The strength of the whole field has made this event, not just a few individuals. The judges had a lot to consider during their deliberations.”
There were 117 nominations for the 40 under 40 program and judges were impressed by the amount of young and inspirational achievers.
Norgard Clohessy’s managing director Byran Hughes said he was surprised with the number of high quality entrants.
“The calibre of entrants has been impressive and, when you think about the people who didn’t apply, it’s quite amazing,” he said.
“It was quite inspiring to read about the challenges each applicant faced and learning from their mistakes.”
Method’s managing director Stephen Langsford was of a similar opinion, stating that there was a strong sense of entrepreneurial spirit.
“I was impressed not only by the success of the applicants but the seeds of entrepreneurial and leadership in younger people,” Mr Langsford said.
“I was delighted to read the success stories and the adversities these people have faced and how they’ve handled those situations.”
