PRIVATELY-OWNED boutique property developer SC Land has purchased a prominent riverside Crawley block, owned by the City of Perth Lord Mayor Dr Peter Nattrass and family, and plans to develop a $24 million luxury apartment building.
The City of Perth council last week passed a development application for an eight-storey building containing 14 multiple dwellings and a basement car park for the site, located at 6-8 Mounts Bay Road Crawley.
A development has been planned for the site since 1991 when it first received approval.
The development will be the second project SC Land has undertaken in Western Australia. The development company, which has links in Singapore and Canada, is headed up by directors Lance Chu and Chenghan Tan.
SC Land recently received a Master Builders Association award for best multi-unit development under $10 million for its Aurora Queens Gardens apartment development on Goderich Street in East Perth.
Mr Chu, a Harvard trained architect, said the apartment building the company planned to develop was at a much lower height than previous schemes for the site and stood at 24 metres.
He said that development sites with scarcity value were difficult to attain in Australia and that the Crawley site presented an opportunity for SC Land to develop a high-end project of striking design.
“The site demands good architecture. What we try to bring to all our developments is research and design that is unprecedented in mainstream development,” Mr Chu said. “We plan to develop striking, modern and contemporary architecture on the site.”
