Originating in Perth, the Dôme has grown to now have over 100 cafés in 6 countries. 68 of these are in Australia, and 65 of those in Western Australia. Malaysian private equity firm Navis Capital Partners holds an 80 per cent stake in Dome Coffees Australia. It acquired that in 2014 at an estimated price of $50 million in large part reversing a $30 million deal in 2008, when it sold out to the Wyllie Group-owned Viburnum and Dome management.Navis, an active player in Western Australia’s private equity space, originally bought out Archer Capital’s interest in Dome for $20 million in 2003. In 2000, Dome Coffees founders Patria Jafferies and Phil May entered into an agreement with Sydney-based venture capitalist Grant Samuels Private Equity (which became Archer Capital) which injected $10 million into the Dome business the pair started in 1989 to obtain a 50 per cent stake.
