Just weeks after making the Erebor cobalt-gold discovery in British Columbia, Canada, battery metals focused explorer Blackstone Minerals has identified two new drill targets that it says could unlock the potential of its Little Gem project.
Phase one of an IP survey identified the targets to the east and west of Little Gem.
The shallow and easily accessible anomalies are up to 800m long and 500m wide with chargeability and resistivity signatures typical of sulfide bearing mineralisation.
The Erebor cobalt-gold discovery that Blackstone unearthed back in August is just 900m from its flagship Little Gem project.
The discovery, identified from rock chip sampling, contains visible gold and the rare pink cobalt mineral erythrite, which is also known as “cobalt bloom”.
Managing Director Scott Williamson said: “We continue to see a belt-scale opportunity similar to the world class Bou-Azzer primary Cobalt district in Morocco.”
“We have now surveyed only a small portion of our total tenure and already have two new high priority drill targets showing coincident geochemical and geophysical anomalies. The IP anomalies have been elevated to our highest priority targets at Little Gem and will be drill tested at the earliest opportunity.”
Blackstone is also nearing completion of a detailed soil sampling program over multiple prospects adjacent to Little Gem and regional targets over 335 km2 of tenure.
This is aimed at reviewing the cobalt potential of over 48km of untested strike southeast of Little Gem in the under-explored mining district.
The recently completed diamond drilling campaign intersected the Little Gem structure within metres of the interpreted target and the company says that the alteration halo is significantly larger than had been previously interpreted.
Significant drilling results included 4.3m @ 1.0% cobalt and 15g/t gold, including 1.1m @ 3.0% cobalt and 44g/t gold and 3.2m @ 0.8% cobalt and 4g/t gold, including 1m @ 1.2% cobalt and 5g/t gold.
