CREATING a niche for themselves in the South West is WA’s oldest and largest patent and trade mark attorney, Wray and Associates.
The firm first had a presence in Bunbury in 1993.
Wray and Associates partner Errol Harwood said, since then, Bunbury had undergone a huge transformation.
“In the last six years Bunbury has changed – you just have to look at the main street,” Mr Harwood said in reference to the ‘capuccino strip’ that has emerged in the heart of Bunbury.
Even in 1993, Wray and Associates could see the potential for the business in the South West and specifically for Bunbury.
“I saw Bunbury as the hub for the South West as all roads pass through Bunbury,” Mr Harwood said.
This foresight has been rewarded with many new developments, particularly those involved in exporting such as the wine industry, going their way.
Mr Halwood said the firm remained the only one operating out of the South West giving it the ability to build relationships with local clients.
Mr Harwood makes a trip to the Bunbury office every Wednesday to meet with local clients.
He said he was concerned that some exporters did not protect their brand name sufficiently in other countries which, in some cases, could mean the company concerned open to losing substantial sums of money.
