AUSTRADE is holding the third of its LinkWest ’99 South Asia national seminar series at the Duxton Hotel on 25 amd 26 October.
The South Asia region covers the markets of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
Speakers at the conference include ambassadors and Austrade trade commissioners working in those countries.
Australian exports to the region have doubled over the past four years to $3 billion, indicating rapidly developing markets and a wealth of opportunity for potential and established exporters.
Manufactures and service exports are also growing rapidly in areas including telecommunications equipment, automotive parts, education services, health
services, processed foods and pharmaceutical
products.
The region represents a great market for small to medium-sized enterprises with smart technology and products.
WA has even been able to export its land – in the form of film locations – to the Indian film industry, which dwarfs Hollywood in terms of movie production volume. This State has something India is finding hard to come by – space.
The WA Government has been pushing for local businesses to become more involved in the South Asia region.
Australian investment in South Asia continues to grow and is currently worth $1.5 billion.
Key areas of investment include banking and financial services, telecommunications, manufacturing,
oil and gas, food processing and the mining and automotive sectors.
Further opportunities for investment are likely to arise from the massive development needs of the region in areas such as mining and minerals processing, information technology and telecommunications, agribusiness, oil and gas and infrastructure.
A key feature of the LinkWest seminars is the ability to speak one-on-one with the speakers.
On the second day of LinkWest two industry-specific workshops will be held covering the agribusiness sector in the morning and oil,gas and petrochemicals in the afternoon.
