CPA Australia has launched a new specialist designation to formally recognise members with expertise in information technology.
It expects a majority of its 93,000 members to apply for the IT specialist designation, which acknowledges IT expertise in addition to their financial skills.
Recent research by CPA Australia shows that most of its members in Australia and Asia plan to undertake information technology education or training within the next five years.
Substantial numbers also plan to specialise in IT as part of their career progression strategy.
“Information technology has evolved to become a key part of the overall business strategy,” said David Edwards, CPA Australia CEO.
“Enhancing IT competence is important whether your career goal is CEO, CIO or a role along either path. It is also a critical element in e-business, which is driving the most sweeping change in the corporate landscape in years.”
Mr Edwards said the new IT specialist designation was part of a package of e-business initiatives currently on offer or being developed by CPA Australia. Other developments include a major upgrading of the CPA website and new online services for members in association with strategic business partners.
