ON 27 MARCH Perth publisher Roger Andrew will release his latest offering – a case study book about leadership.
Business leaders featured in the book include Curtin University’s Dr Ron Cacioppe, consultant Leigh Farnell and consultant Michael Morgan.
He said Western Australia Leading in the New Millennium was designed to offer an insight into WA companies he had “caught out doing well”.
“The information gathered in this book includes leading edge ideas on management, leadership, thinking and customer service,” Mr Andrew said.
He said when his previous book, Western Australia: the Quest for Excellence was published in 1997, the quality movement was in a mature phase.
“Still, to my mind there were missing links,” Mr Andrew said.
“So we wrote about vision and creating and empowering employees and to this day we still receive emails and calls from people commenting on the inspiration it provided.
“The idea with both books is that you can pick one up and within two or three minutes gain an insight into some aspect of business and then go to your appointment.
“With regard to the millennium book focusing on leadership, we believe this subject is now a critical performance issue.
“WA business people, because they are so far away from the rest of the world – and quite often their client base – need to work harder, smarter and use technology more effectively than eastern counterparts.
“Leadership is now generally accepted to be a ‘bottom line’ issue.”
Mr Andrew said he always tried to keep his books positive.
“We will never leave a story with a negative ending,” he said.
“We look at financial or other difficulties – what happened, how the problems were overcome, what the lessons were.
“Often we become lazy when life is trouble free but when adversity strikes we do most of our learning.
“These stories are full of businesses that have grown through determination and innovation.”
