Langoulant chairs Committee for Perth
Oakajee Port and Rail chief executive officer John Langoulant has been appointed as chairman of think tank Committee for Perth, replacing Tony Howarth, who did not renominate for the position after serving six years. Also elected as Committee for Perth directors were Woodside Energy executive director Rob Cole, UWA executive director finance and resources Gaye McMath, and BHP Billiton vice-president external affairs WA Julius Matthys. The committee awarded Australian Urban Design Research Centre director and UWA professor Richard Weller the outstanding contribution by a member in 2012 at its annual general meeting held last Wednesday.
Murchison directors move for Brierley
Board control at Murchison Metals is set to pass to its largest shareholder Mercantile Investment Company, chaired by Ron Brierley, after the incumbent chairman and managing director said all parties agreed on the need to return cash to shareholders. Mercantile, which holds a 17 per cent stake in Murchison, had requisitioned a meeting of shareholders to replace chairman Ken Scott-Mackenzie and managing director Greg Martin with a pair of its own nominees early last week. Mr Scott-Mackenzie and Mr Martin agreed later in the week to resign from Murchison’s board following its annual meeting on November 29.
Cordin acting chief at Tanami
WA miner Tanami Gold has appointed Peter Cordin as acting chief executive officer whilst it continues its search for a permanent candidate for the position. Last week, deputy chairman Denis Waddell, who had been overseeing day-to-day management since managing director Graeme Sloan resigned last year, himself left the WA gold miner along with non-executive director Alan Senior. Mr Cordin was previously executive chairman of Dragon Mining, chief executive officer of Moneo Metals, and managing director of Steppe Gold International.
