THE WA advertising industry will remember 2000 for the tragic death of industry leader John Davis from John Davis Advertising.
JDA surprised a lot of industry sceptics by continuing to win new business after Mr Davis’ death, including contracts for the WA electoral commission, CALM and Clairault Wines.
“I think we’ve got a lot of people around town stumped, there’s no doubt when a character figure departs from an agency, people expect the wheels to fall off, but JDA is strong and focussed” JDA general manager Julian Donaldson said.
However JDA did lose one of their major accounts. Estimated to be worth more than $1 million, the City of Perth was won by Marketforce.
It was one of a number of large accounts which moved homes this year, including the $1 million Masters business, yet another big WA account to go to eastern States-based agency.
The lucrative Lotteries account went out to tender in 2000 and Marketforce fought off a competitive pitch to retain the multi million dollar business.
MJB&B lost the Edith Cowan University account, which was moved to 303.
However they have shown continued growth gaining Bowra & O’Dea and Western QBE.
The Shorter Group marked 2000 by a move to new premises in East Perth designed by their own 3D-design group.
TSG was pleased to announce that Landcorp had consolidated its advertising business with both Marketforce and JMG. Now Shorters has all the business.
The Brand Agency’s Perth and Melbourne office have performed well with The Brand netting an estimated $7 million in new business this year.
“In revenue terms we are about the same size as Marketforce,” The Brand Agency chairman and managing director Ken James said.
Vinten Browning showed strong growth in 2000 with the addition of Keystart, Xanadu Wines and Karrinyup Shopping Centre to their client list.
