TWO WA women developing an Internet-based scientific analysis business have won a national business award for strategy and enterprise.
Rachel Duff’s and Tracey Wilkinson’s Biogene-e-us fought off other budding businesses in web design, fashion for fuller figures, sandblasting and industrial cleaning to win the Shell LiveWIRE youth business competition.
Biogene-e-us, to be launched in a few weeks, will analyse DNA data for medical and agricultural researchers.
Ms Duff said ensuring the privacy of clients and the security of their data and results was a major issue in establishing the business.
“We got the idea at uni. While we were doing work experience we realised no-one was utilising analysis programs available on the internet,” Ms Duff said.
Ms Wilkinson said she had never envisaged herself as a business woman.
“We’re excited at the opportunities and the ability to create opportunities now,” she said.
