New WESTERN Australian Fisheries Minister Norman Moore has had to deal with a heated lobster fishing industry after new plans to restrict the commercial and recreational catch of western rock lobsters was announced last week. The state government imposed new restrictions for the next two years in response to a worrying decline in juvenile lobster stocks. The restrictions involve a 15 per cent reduction on entitlements for the commercial rock lobster industry for the 2008-2009 season and an additional 15 per cent reduction for next year’s season. The daily bag limits for recreational fishers will be reduced from eight to six lobsters, while the catch limit per boat will be reduced from 16 to 12. The decision has created frustration amongst the industry as a group of mid-west fishermen sought a Supreme Court injunction on the restrictions
