THE 2000 Dowerin GWN Field Days will be held from 29 to 31 August.
The theme Building on Success celebrates Dowerin GWN Field Days as the biggest display and demonstration of agricultural machinery and allied equipment in WA.
The field days have become a stalwart of WA’s agricultural industry with farmers flocking from around the state to kick the tyres of the latest farm machinery offerings.
The small Dowerin community has enjoyed record growth in the scale of the event over the years.
This year, more than 750 exhibitors and 60,000 local, interstate and international visitors are expected to attend.
More than 60,000 voluntary community hours from locals of Dowerin and surrounding districts go into staging the event.
Dowerin Field Days president Ann Rackham said this showed the depth of commitment the Dowerin community had to take charge of its own destiny and “to create a viable and secure future for children and grandchildren”.
“We are not afraid to think outside the square, be open-minded and adaptable,” Ms Rackham said.
Situated in the heartland of broad acre farming, Dowerin is 165 kilometres from Perth.
Ms Rackham said the town was an ideal location to showcase precision farming technologies, landcare initiatives and agribusiness services.
Farming is becoming a very technology-intensive business – and not just in the activity of growing produce.
The WA Government has been pushing for regional areas to become more familiar with information technology. IT is seen as one of the best ways to overcome WA’s isolation.
Dowerin GWN Field Days CEO Wendy Newman said the field days would feature areas designated to family interest displays plus leisure and outdoor activities.
“Our exhibitors have access to a captive audience, many of whom rely on the information they receive at Dowerin GWN Field Days to make their purchasing decisions,” Ms Newman said.
“For months, even years after the event we have queries from visitors who have seen something of interest and want to follow up,” she said.
