Couple provides a haven of serenity

ALAN Tinker is famous in the botanical world – and even if you’re not into flower-power, he’s guar-anteed to keep you interested.

He’s an avid greenie and self-taught botanist who’s so well respected in his field that academics have named an orchid after him.

International researchers seek him out for documentaries and study tours, and if you’re keen, he might even show you his laboratory and share with you his vast scientific knowledge about our flora.

His wife Lorraine is known for her hospitality and love of animals. There’s usually an orphaned joey or injured bird around the place thriving in her care.

She rigs up cloth bags for the young kangaroos and carries them around with her so they think they’re still in the pouch!

Alan and Lorraine took over Western Flora 10 years ago, and now it’s a haven for flower-fanciers, inter-state travellers and city-slickers looking for some serenity.
