Called The Food Lovers Guide to Perth, the book has been complied by London-trained cook Lisa Hummel-Robson and caterer Julie Mews (above right, and left).
Their aim is to provide an overview of the best shopping spots for food in a bid to increase seasonal cooking using local ingredients, all while having a good time.
The Food Lovers Guide to Perth lists more than 300 good addresses covering a variety of areas such as fishmongers, wine stores, markets, eclectic foodie shops or cooking schools.
The bon vivant duo compiled the book after sending out more than 200 questionnaires to their food-loving friends and acquaintances, asking them to share their food secrets and shopping preferences. They received a vast response and gave them a starting point for their research.
“Once we got on the road it was just like a treasure trove opened up; all those good places that we didn’t know about also became the passionate people behind the business.” Mrs Hummel-Robson says.
The book is not a restaurant guide, rather it compiles a selection of places and stores where quality ingredients can be found.
The guide contains comprehensive entries and lists are compiled by their specialty.
“It’s the book that Julie and I wanted to have in our handbags.” Mrs Hummel-Robson told Gusto.
The first edition of The Food Lovers Guide to Perth is published by Fremantle Press and hits the bookshop shelves in November and will retail for $24.95.
