For those planning a mid-year trip to the state’s South West, a stop off in Bunbury could enhance your wine experience. The Wine Education Centre is hosting a half-day wine course that aims to “demystify wine and provide fundamental tips to get through those cellar door tastings and dinner parties”. The course takes place on June 23 between 10am and 1pm and costs $55.

Butchers from across the country will be frying up a storm in Northbridge on March 3 for the annual National Sausage King competition. It’s the first year WA will host the event, which seeks to find out not only which butcher can make the best tasting sausage, but how appealing it is, both raw and cooked.

Judges will also examine the sausage’s shape, thickness, shrinkage and freshness. Five Western Australian butchers have made it through various regional finals to earn a spot at the barbecue and will take on butchers from across the country in the cook-off. Sausage lovers in Northbridge for the event will also see a line-up of local butchers who will show off their sausage linking and knife-sharpening skills.
