The Globe at the Hilton will host the Challenge of the Winemakers long-table dinner on September 23.

The Globe at the Hilton will host the Challenge of the Winemakers long-table dinner on September 23.

Pitting two of the state’s most successful wine forces against each other, the event will feature thoroughbreds from the stables of Howard Park and Vasse Felix.

Fans of either or both wineries may be interested to see how their respective iconic brands compare. Thoughts of comparing Vasse Felix’s Heytesbury chardonnay with Howard Park’s, two of the finest examples of WA chardonnay, is like a heavyweight title fight.

Respective cabernet sauvignon and shiraz labels will face-off as well.

But the wines won’t be doing all the talking. David Dowden of Vasse Felix and Michael Kerrigan of Howard Park will help orchestrate the event.

Keeping the peace will be a set menu from chef Paul Medica, matched specifically to the wines.

Peak industry body the Winemaker’s Federation of Australia has decreed that wine tourism in Western Australia is the best in the business.

The federation made the announcement when launching a multimedia toolkit to wineries looking to attract more tourists.

The package is designed to offer practical advice to new and emerging vintners, approaches on cellar door marketing, and tips on customer interaction.

Citing Western Australia’s ‘innovative approach’ to wine marketing and tourism, the federation says this state has been the most successful in marketing itself individually.
