Mark Ashley has resigned as managing director of LionOre Australia and director of LionOre Mining International Ltd, effective May 31st, 2006.
LionOre Australia chief operating officer Glenn Jardine will succeed Mr Ashley as managing director.
Mr Ashley said he was assessing a number of opportunities in the corporate resources arena, particularly in the mid-tier sector where there is likely to be a continued and significant level of activity.
"Being a part of the team that has built LionOre to its position today as a top-10 western world nickel producer has been immensely challenging and rewarding, Mr Ashley said.
CEO and president of LionOre Colin Steyn said "during his tenure (of nine years), Mark has overseen a string of strategic acquisitions to consolidate LionOre's position at the forefront of the Australian nickel industry, the most recent being the takeover of MPI Mines Ltd.
"On the operational side, he headed up a team which discovered and subsequently built the Maggie Hays, Emily Ann and Thunderbox mines, as well as implementing world class environmental practices and procedures, for which LionOre received a number of awards in recognition of this leadership role. We wish Mark every success in his new endeavours."
