Construction company Pindari WA has announced its new chief executive as Gary Nurick, who has more than two decades of financial, commercial and operational experience. Mr Nurick has held a range of roles across mining services, warehousing, logistic, wholesale and finance and prior to this new appointment, he worked as director strategy, planning and performance for MOSAIC, an associate company of Pindari WA. Mr Nurick also previously worked as Toll Group general manager for two years, and at Centurion for five years in a variety of different managerial roles.
Colleen Hayward has joined carbon abatement company Salubris as an independent non-executive director. Professor Hayward is a Noongar woman with more than 35 years’ experience across education, employment, law and justice, with particular expertise in developing programs to support and empower Indigenous Western Australians. Professor Hayward has previously served in senior roles at Edith Cowan University and Telethon Kids Institute.
The state government has appointed four new members to the Conservation and Parks Commission, which works to conserve Western Australia’s biodiversity. Jo Lanagan has been promoted to chair after serving as deputy chair since 2019. She has three decades of experience in Indigenous Australian affairs, helping progress Native Title issues at both state and federal government levels. Mark Webb has been chosen to step into the deputy chair position after his service on the commission. Mr Webb has more than 30 years’ experience and formerly served as director general of the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, which included being chief executive of the Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority, the Rottnest Island Authority, and the Zoological Parks Authority. Matthew Tonts and Rod Clark have also joined the Conservation and Parks Commission. Professor Tonts chaired the WA Environmental Protection Authority from 2021 to 2024, while Mr Clark brings four decades of public service experience to the commission.
Angela Kelly has been selected as Western Australia’s new agent general for the United Kingdom, Europe and Israel, commencing a nine-month term in October. In this role, Ms Kelly would oversee the Invest and Trade WA offices in London and Frankfurt, working to attract investment and promote opportunities for trade while liaising with WA’s investment and trade commissioners. Ms Kelly has more than 25 years’ experience across system performance, financial management, strategic planning and corporate governance. She currently serves as interim chair at the Western Australian Health Translation Network, and formerly worked as the Department of Health deputy director general. Ms Kelly will commence in the role next month and will undertake a period of induction before being deployed to London. She replaces John Langoulant, whose three-year term finishes next month.
The family company that owns John Hughes Group has recruited Melbourne-based business adviser Craig Holland as chairman. Mr Holland heads advisory firm Generation Private and quietly joined the board of Gilpin Park Pty Ltd last year after being engaged 18 months ago to lead a review of the group’s governance and structure. His appointment came to light when John Hughes' daughter and heir apparent Joanna Millard sat down with Business News to share her story and ambitions for the group. Ms Millard had been executive chair at Gilpin Park but stepped aside as chair in favour of Mr Holland in August last year.
Horizon Minerals has appointed Warren Hallam to its board, bringing more than 35 years of operational and management experience to the gold aspirant. Mr Hallam has vast expertise as a mining industry senior executive and board member, which includes his service as Metals X managing director, and board member at St Barbara, and Poseidon Nickel.
PwC public sector advisory spin-off Scyne Advisory has appointed former senior Google executive John Ball as its first independent chief executive. Mr Ball will join the company on November 5, bringing decades of experience with Google and Microsoft to the role. Scyne advisory business leader Richard Gwilym has been acting chief executive.
