Michael Sutherland

Michael Sutherland OAM was the Liberal Party Member of the WA Legislative Assembly for Mount Lawley from September 2008 to March 2017. He was also the 29th Speaker of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly.

Prior to entering state politics, Mr Sutherland was a City of Perth Councillor from 1995 to 2009, including as deputy mayor for five years.

He was made a freeman of the City of Perth, an honour awarded to council members who have served at least three consecutive elections, have made an outstanding contribution to the community, and have consistently displayed commendable conduct.

In 2019, Mr Sutherland was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for services to the Parliament of Western Australia and to local government.
