In July 2019, Mr Howarth was appointed Assistant Minister for Community Housing, Homelessness and Community Services. In June 2022, following the Liberal Party's defeat at the federal election, Mr Howarth became the Shadow Minister for Defence Industry & Defence Personnel in the Dutton shadow ministry.
