The Armadale, East Perth, Midland and Subiaco Redevelopment Authorities will be rolled into a new body that will oversee future development for the entire Perth metropolitan area.
Planning Minister John Day introduced a bill to state Parliament this week to establish an amalgamated Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority, saying it would have far-reaching benefits for Perth's planning.
"The new legislation is set to streamline existing systems and leverage long-term efficiencies while retaining the benefit to the State of the flexible redevelopment authority model," Mr Day said.
The Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority would be government by a seven-member board, and Mr Day said planning processes would be simplified by a central administration.
The Minister also said locally-based five-member Land Redevelopment Committees would be established as necessary and would be delegated planning powers by the authority's board.
"This structure will better serve communities as it will enable resources to be deployed to projects as required," he said.
Mr Day gave no detail on who would head the authority.
East Perth Redevelopment Authority chief executive Tony Morgan, who also heads the Subiaco Redevelopment Authority, would seem a logical choice.
The Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority is expected to commence on January 1, 2012.
