THE ABC will become the latest broadcaster to embrace business television when it launches Business Breakfast on June 3 at 6.30am.
Ex-Channel 9 reporter and financial writer Emma Alberici will host the weekday business show.
The format is expected to include general business news plus overnight market reports and will feature a report from Prue Clarke at the New York Stock Exchange built around a main business story and interview of the day. This will be followed by company news and a business feature story.
Ms Alberici said she hoped the show would appeal to everybody but admitted the main viewers were likely to be business people and markets players.
Executive producer Mark Maley said he felt it was important to do a program that added value to the business community.
“For various reasons business reporting has a much wider appeal these days,” Mr Maley said.
There is expected to be some regular
WA content in the show.
Indeed, Ms Alberici said there was a business feature on a WA company expected to air in the first week.
Business television shows have grown in popularity over the past year.
SBS launched its The Business Show last year. Both Channel 7 and Channel 9 run business programs on Sundays – Sunday Sunrise and Business Sunday respectively.
And, on the local news front, ABC business reporter Tom Baddley has returned to his four-day-a-week business reporting spot.
There had been speculation that the local business report had been dropped when the ABC put its national business presenter, Alan Kohler, in Mr Baddley’s place.
ABC Perth head of news and current affairs Kim Jordan said Mr Baddley had been on paternity leave for the past two and a half months.
“There was some discussion of keeping the Alan Kohler spot going but we opted to keep the local content going,” Mr Jordan said.
