Vehicle sales in Western Australia have slumped 21 per cent in February, in line with the national trend according to latest industry figures.
The Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries said 7,864 vehicles were sold in February, down 21 per cent or 2,088 units from the same period last year.
Toyota was the highest selling car company in WA, with 1,715 units sold although that was down 22.4 per cent from last year's figure.
Sales of Holden cars were down 20.5 per cent to 1,044 units while Ford dropped 24.3 per cent to 680 and Mazda fell 20.4 per cent to 584.
Nissan suffered a 28.8 per cent slump to 462 while Mitsubishi plummeted 46.4 per cent to 438.
Passenger vehicles sold in WA were down 18.2 per cent to 4,286, sports utility vehicles fell 18 per cent to 1,775, light commercial vehicles dropped 27.6 per cent to 1,551 while heavy vehicles slumped 38.1 per cent to 252.
Victoria suffered the largest fall, with sales plummeting 23.3 per cent to 18,273 units.
New South Wales recorded a 21.1 per cent decline and South Australia posted a 22.7 per cent drop.
Nationally, vehicle sales slumped 21.9 per cent with 70,241 units retailed last month.
The fall came after demand was down 18.5 per cent in January and took demand over the first two months of 2009 to 137,320, 20 per cent lower than over the same period in 2008.
The FCAI said the February result was consistent with the trend of recent months and reflected the economic conditions.
Toyota was the top selling company in February with 14,274 vehicles ahead of Holden on 9,029 and Ford on 7,396.
