Atlas Iron has appointed independent non-executive director Geoff Clifford as chairman of the company, taking over from David Nixon who was ousted at the company's annual general meeting.
Mr Clifford has been with Atlas in the non-executive director capacity since August 2007, and is chairman of the company's Audit and Risk Committee.
Mr CLifford has over 30 years experience in senior roles in the mining, retail and wholesale industries.
In a statement today, Atlas said it has decided to proceed with appointing an additional independent non-executive director.
Mr Clifford's appointment follows comments made by major shareholder IMC Resources that it voted against the re-election of Mr Nixon because it was not comfortable with his stewardship and mentoring of the company.
Previously there was speculation that IMC had voted again Mr Nixon's re-election because it was unhappy that it did not secure an off-take agreement for the company's iron ore project, which IMC yesterday refuted.
