Bassendean company Verriers Engineering Services has won the Prime Minister's award for the best small business of the year in the Australian Training Awards.

WA training excellence acknowledged on national stage
Western Australia has shown its strength in the training sector, taking honours in the nation's most prestigious training awards in Darwin last night.
Training Minister Peter Collier said WA was acknowledged during the Australian Training Awards gala presentation, with four winners and one runner-up.
The State's successful entrants were:
- Verriers Engineering Services (Bassendean) - Prime Minister's Small Business of the Year
- Australian College of Training (Leeming) - Small Training Provider of the Year
- Central West TAFE - VET in Schools Excellence Award
- WA Police - which won one of 10 industry awards for the training provided at the WA Police Academy and
- Debra Franks (of Northam) - Runner Up, Vocational Student of the Year.
"It is truly pleasing to see that WA is home to four national award winners and one runner up," Mr Collier said.
"Each of these winners is to be congratulated for their remarkable achievement."
The Minister also acknowledged other State finalists in the awards, including:
- James Palmer (of Mandurah), finalist for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year
- Joanna Wren (of Karridale), finalist for Australian Apprentice (Trainee) of the Year and
- Ashlee Scinocco (of Thornlie), finalist for Australian Apprentice of the Year.
The Australian Training Awards are the peak national competition for vocational education and training, recognising innovation and excellence in the training sector.
