Travel talk with Graeme Wood, CEO Western Australian Cricket Association
What is your favourite holiday destination and why?
Rottnest because it’s a relaxing place to get away to, without having to catch a plane.
What is your favourite place in WA to take a short break and why?
Rottnest or the Margaret River region in the South West. There are always plenty of things to do down there – visiting the wineries or the breweries, great beaches etc.
What do you think is the best destination to holiday if you have to/want to take the kids and why?
Rottnest is great. We have had some great family holidays in Coral Bay.
Overseas, Bali or Phuket.
What is your pet hate when travelling on airplanes?
Being unable to get a decent amount of sleep.
What has been your biggest travel disaster and what did you learn from it?
On a family trip to Bali, we were due to return home at 10pm, but the flight was delayed until 8am the next morning due to fog in Perth.
Fortunately we had paid for an extra night’s accommodation in case of something going wrong, so we were able to head back to our hotel, which was close to the airport.
How often do you travel? Is it usually for business or pleasure?
Interstate five or six times a year. Overseas maybe once a year. Generally all for business.
What’s always in your carry-on luggage?
Laptop
Where have you always wanted to travel/holiday but haven’t managed to yet?
Greek Islands
What is your favourite interstate/overseas restaurant/bar/hotel?
eGusto Restaurant in Southbank, Brisbane.
You wish Perth could be more like...because...
Melbourne, because they have turned a small area around the Yarra into an entertainment precinct. We have a great opportunity to do the same thing here.
You hope Perth always retains...because...
Easy access to great waterways, both the beach and river. It’s a unique thing we have and we’re very spoilt here in Perth.
What was the last book you read?
Rise & Rise of Kerry Packer by Paul Barry
What CD is currently in your car?
Simply Red Greatest Hits.
What WA/Perth restaurant do you keep going back to and why?
il Ciao in Applecross. I can walk in any time of the evening and have a great meal in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
