PERTH businesses FX Digital, CommtechWireless Pty Ltd and WAVE Engineering have won prizes in their respective categories at the 2007 WA Small Business Champion awards this week. The awards recognise the achievements of small businesses in the retail, service and manufacturing industries with less than 40 full-time equivalent employees. Ballajura-based website and graphic design business FX Digital took out the award in the business services category, while 2003 WA Business News 40Under40 winner Nathan Buzza’s Commtech Wireless won the information technology category. Other winners from Perth were Osborne Park-based WAVE Engineering in the professional services category, and Australian Securities Exchange listed fashion company Costarella Design Ltd. The small business champion entrepreneur award went to Danee Jenks of Kununurra’s Stitched Up Embroidery, with the young small business champion entrepreneur award won by Karla Gaudet and Emmanuelle Torres for their Perth-based concept hair and beauty salon, Chilli Creations. The two entrepreneur awards honour unique individuals who have attained extraordinary business success, and have demonstrated outstanding achievements in the face of tremendous challenge. The winners of the state awards for each category will be automatically nominated for the national Australian Small Business Champion awards, held in November.
