THE City of Perth is offering grants of up to $30,000 to heritage property owners to undertake conservation or access works. The funding is part of the City’s Heritage Program, which offers a range of heritage incentives including rate relief and plot-ratio transfers. Perth CEO Frank Edwards said the part played by property owners in conserving the city’s heritage should be recognised and acknowledged. “These buildings make a great contribution to Perth’s culture and identity and it’s right that the city helps to keep them well maintained,” he said. With this year’s funding, the council will have committed more than $500,000 to supporting heritage conservation. Previous grants have been awarded to an old stables block in West Perth, the former Theatre Royal in Hay Street Mall and the Gledden Building on the corner of William and Hay Streets.
