The development of the proposed sports management centre at Rushton Park in Mandurah moved a step closer today when ASX listed property developer Port Bouvard Limited provided the Peel Thunder Football Club with a cheque for $300,000 - representing one of the largest financial contributions ever made to a WAFL club.
The financial contribution made by Port Bouvard follows the successful settlement earlier this year of the Peel Thunder Fundraising Home. The home, located within the Port Bouvard Residential Resort Estate near Mandurah, was constructed by local builder Fielden Homes with the support of a number of local tradesmen and suppliers.
In securing these funds, Peel Thunder is now able to progress planning of the state-of-the-art "Sporting Centre of Excellence", new member facilities, an administration centre and a corporate entertainment area to service both the Peel Region and boost the club's ability to attract further sponsors and members.
Peel Thunder CEO Cadell Buss, who received the $300,000 cheque from Port Bouvard at a special function today, said the sponsorship was a significant milestone that would help secure the club's growing success and long-term future in the WAFL. He also used the occasion to urge other local business owners to contribute to a facility that will benefit the entire Peel region.
"We are absolutely thrilled to have received such as significant financial contribution from Port Bouvard, a contribution that will assist us to develop this top-class facility and set the foundation for the success of Peel Thunder in terms of financial stability and on-field success," Mr Buss said.
"These funds - along with the significant financial pledges being made by other Mandurah businessmen - will ensure we can provide our members and supporters with quality facilities to enjoy watching football while providing a range of services that will benefit the entire Peel community.
"Port Bouvard Limited's sponsorship of Peel Thunder demonstrates the company's long term commitment and investment in this football club, the WAFL and communities in the Peel region.
"We urge other companies that have significant operations in the Peel region to get behind the development of this facility."
Mr Buss said the sponsorship would provide a real spark for the club as it continued to build a culture of success on and off the field.
Dr Neale Fong, Chairman of the Western Australian Football Commission, and Trevor Nisbett, Chief Executive of the West Coast Eagles Football Club were guest speakers at today's event, where they discussed the important role Peel Thunder Football Club played in the success of the WAFL and the Peel region.
"The "Sporting Centre of Excellence" is just as important to the Peel region community as it is to Australian Rules Football in the region - both of which are experiencing remarkable growth. For Peel Thunder to have the foresight to plan a facility that will benefit the entire community should be both commended and supported," said Dr Fong.
Mr Buss said the new sponsorship would be in addition to the current five-year agreement that has seen Port Bouvard Limited contribute over $80,000 as the Major Sponsor of the Port Bouvard Rising Stars Programme, which encourages junior development in the region. This includes naming rights of the Peel Thunder Colts team.
Port Bouvard Limited Managing Director Ross Neumann said Port Bouvard Limited has proudly supported Peel Thunder for the last seven years.
"We remain committed to investing in local grass roots football for communities in the Peel region," Mr Neumann said.
"Port Bouvard Limited has supported the junior development program at the club for a number of years - which is already bearing fruit in terms of producing quality WAFL and AFL drafted players - and is helping to strengthen the foundations for the future of the club.
"We are delighted to be able to continue in our role as Major Sponsor of the Peel Thunder Junior Development Programme and as Premium Sponsor to the Peel Thunder Football Club and look forward to continuing to contribute significantly to the development of the club."
