The Western Australian branch of the Australian Institute of Export will host the ‘Putting WA on the World’s Table’ seminar later this month, focusing on how the state’s food industry is achieving success in export markets.
The institute is a private, not-for-profit export training organisation that works with Australian exporters and export service providers.
The WA office is headed by state manager Fiona Leonard, and is represented on its national board by experienced trade executive Terry Goss.
Ms Leonard said the institute’s primary focus was in the area of export training, preparing exporters to deal with the challenges of taking their goods and services into overseas markets.
“We offer an advanced diploma and graduate diploma in international business management, as well as a range of short courses on particular skills needed in exporting like documentation,” she said.
AIEX was established in 1956 and is a national body made up of umbrella state operations.
This month’s seminar will feature input from WA food companies Kailis Organic Olive Grove and halal food exporter Comgroup.
The institute also runs the ‘Australian export heroes awards’, a national annual awards program that recognises the efforts of individuals rather than companies.
WA will host the awards this year, which will be launched in August and conclude next March.
Previous WA winners include John Rothwell of Austal Ships, and Australia-Asia trade pioneer, Harold Clough.
AIEX works closely with AusTrade and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, as well as bilateral international chambers of commerce.
