The local arm of Watpac has been awarded a $21 million contract for the construction of a bypass on the Great Northern Highway at Miling in the state’s Wheatbelt region.
Under the contract, Watpac Civil & Mining will upgrade a section of the highway, along with a new eastern bypass of the Miling townsite.
“The Miling bypass will separate local and heavy traffic and minimise noise and vibration in the small farming town,” Main Roads said on its website.
“It will also improve freight efficiency by providing a continuous 110 km/h environment for heavy vehicles on the outskirts of the town.”
Watpac Civil & Mining is headquartered in Perth and has a history of delivering complex projects in remote locations, from the Pilbara and Kalgoorlie in Western Australia to the Bowen Basin in Queensland.
It is a division of ASX-listed Watpac.
The division employs approximately 750 people nationally – more than 50 per cent of Watpac’s total national workforce – with active projects in Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia.
