Floreat Forum won the Perth’s Best Sub Regional Shopping Centre award and Belmont Forum was named Perth’s Best Regional Shopping Centre. The City of Fremantle was named Perth’s Best Local Government. Perth’s Best Commercial Building award went to Woodside Energy. The Joondalup District Police Station was named Perth’s Best Police Station. Curtin University won the Best Tertiary Campus award.
* WHITFORDS City Shopping Centre has won the overall 2000 WA Shopping Centre Marketing Award presented by the Property Council of Australia at the Hyatt recently.
Whitford City was also the overall winner in its over 45,000 square metre size classification.
Other size classification winners were Mirrabooka Square for the 30,000-45,000 square metre range, Carillon City for the 10,000-30,000 classification and Paragon CBD Arcade for the under 10,000 square metre category.
* THE Holmes á Court Gallery, in conjunction with Tolarno Galleries Melbourne is displaying the works of Australian artists such as Tim Maguire, Brent Harris, Tim Johnson, Patricia Piccinini, Judy Watson, Dick Watkins and Tim Westcott. Called Spring, the exhibition runs until October 1 at the Holmes á Court Gallery at 11 Brown Street, East Perth.
* AUSTAL Ships has been named a finalist in two categories of the WA Industry and Export Awards – the Large Advanced Manufacturer Export category and the WA Design Award. The company has earned about $1 billion in exports for WA since it began in 1988. The winners of the Industry and Export Awards will be announced on October 6.
* NEW GUIDELINES: Worksafe WA’s Arthur Livock, Southern Cross Cleaning’s Frank Holguin, Labour Relations Minister Cheryl Edwardes and Cleandustrial’s Paula Squibb.
* A NEW type of light bulb, an easy to use door key and a scooter to improve access for everyone were the three major prize winners in this year’s Universal Design Competition. The competition is designed to find ways of meeting the needs of WA’s growing number of seniors. Each main theme winner was awarded $5,000 and they were:
* David Smith of Crawley who designed the easier to use and long-lasting "plug in bulb";
* Richard Marshall of Bedford who designed the "push key" which can be inserted any way up and opens the door with a push movement; and
* Jason Low of Bentley who designed the highly manoeuvrable "touch" scooter which can be used indoors or off-road.
* CLEANDUSTRIAL’S Paula Squibb and Quirk Corporate’s Michael Knee have been awarded the Master Cleaner’s Guild’s CleanSAFE Award. The Awards are designed to highlight those who go above what is required to ensure worker safety.

The family weekend show includes a diverse range of entertainment including arts & crafts, food music and performance, children’s entertainment and psychic readers.
