KPMG announces new national chair

Alison Kitchen will become the first woman in Australia to chair a big four professional services firm when she takes on the role at KPMG Australia later this year.

Ms Kitchen has been elected KPMG’s new national chair to succeed Peter Nash when he steps down in September.

She has been with KPMG for more than 23 years, beginning her career in the UK before moving to Perth, where she worked in the audit and tax practices.

Ms Kitchen is now based in Melbourne, where she specialises in external audit, management and governance.

She is also a former board member of the professional services firm, and current serves as a member of Chief Executive Women.

“Alison is well known and respected by boards and CEOs across Australia as a leader and effective decision maker,’’ Mr Nash said.

“I am delighted to announce Alison as our chairman-elect and congratulate her on her appointment.

“She will work closely with Gary Wingrove, our CEO, to lead the firm’s future in Australia, and represent the Australian firm in the international arena.”

Commenting on her appointment, Ms Kitchen said she was pleased and excited by the opportunity to serve as chair.

“I look forward to utilising my experience to help inform public debate and bridge the current trust deficit between business, politics and society,” she said.
