Developer Edge Visionary Living has welcomed the end of an 18-month battle to win approval for an apartment project at 74 Mill Point Road in South Perth.
The Metropolitan Central development assessment panel gave its approval for a 34-storey mixed use development, known as Lumiere, earlier this week.
However, that proposal was the third for the site, after the original plan, a 29-storey tower, was initially approved by the DAP in May last year.
That approval was set aside by the Supreme Court of Western Australia, following a sustained campaign against it by local resident groups.
Edge Visionary Living then lodged an application to build a 44-level tower, a plan which was rejected earlier this year by the DAP.
The project that was approved on Wednesday was a 34-level tower.
“We listened to the concerns about height so we decided that the best option was to reduce Lumiere under the height of the Civic Heart building as something that would be more acceptable,” Edge Visionary Living managing director Gavin Hawkins said.
Mr Hawkins said the decision ended a long period of uncertainty for more than 60 families that had bought into the Lumiere project.
