Audiences and performers will be treated to better theatre facilities with the opening of Perth's newly refurbished Arts House (The Blue Room) in the Perth Cultural Centre.
Culture and Arts minister Sheila McHale said, "The $1million investment will mean added comfort for audiences and performers, more pleasant surroundings and improved access throughout the venue.
"Improved front-of-house facilities, new lifts, new balcony spaces as well as better performance spaces with improved air-conditioning and soundproofing are among the upgrades.
"All this has been done without affecting the unique character and heritage architecture of the 1905 building."
The minister said the renovations, the first refurbishment of Arts House for decades, had been completed on budget.
"Performing arts spaces such as Arts House are integral not only to the industry, but to the cultural fabric of our community," she said.
"Arts House tenants, The Blue Room (run by Performing Arts Centre Society) and Propelarts, were relocated during the refurbishment and have now returned to begin a new season.
"The refurbished Arts House, together with the neighbouring new performing arts venue to be completed in 2008 and the planned revitalisation of the Cultural Centre, will help create a dynamic arts precinct."
Ms McHale said the Arts House refurbishment was the first of several capital works projects to be completed, with the next venue being Subiaco Arts Centre.
