Rail strikers face possible prosecution

The Australian Building and Construction Commission has said it would consider prosecutions if it was deemed that the actions taken by around 400 workers, to walk off the job on the Perth to Mandurah rail project, were unlawful.

The Building and Construction Industry Improvement Act provides for maximum penalties of $22,000 for individuals and up to $100,000 for unions.

The workers walked off the job last Friday in support of a sacked union official, despite there being a life-time strike ban on the project.

Some workers on the project, fed up with being forced to go on strike, are now seeking alternative work.
