Unemployment in Western Australia has dropped again, breaking new ground to settle below 4 per cent, leading today's statistics which show a national average of 5.1 per cent.
According to the state government, WA has an unemployment rate of 3.9 per cent in November, down from 4 per cent in October- underlining the strength in the resources driven economy.
An additional 44,200 Western Australians have found work since the beginning of the year, double the national rate of 2.3 per cent.
Below is an announcement from the state government:
A revised October unemployment figure from the Australian Bureau of Statistics has seen Western Australia break through the four per cent unemployment barrier.
Employment Protection Minister John Kobelke said the State had been consistently down at the four per cent level for much of the year and a revision by the ABS on October's employment figure saw WA's unemployment rate drop to 3.9 per cent.
"The revised October figure makes it the lowest on record for WA since the Labour Force Report began compiling data almost 30 years ago," Mr Kobelke said.
"There has now been 16 continuous months where employment has been high and the rate of unemployment has been at or below five per cent.
"WA continues to lead the nation in employment, vindicating the economic settings put in place by the Gallop Government.
"These figures are bad news for a negative Opposition that believes Labor cannot be good financial managers and prove we can deliver a strong economy and low unemployment."
The revised October figure was followed in November by an unemployment figure of 4.0 per cent.
The national unemployment rate remained unchanged from October to November at 5.1 per cent.
Since coming to office, the Gallop Government has been able to create jobs for 127,300 more Western Australians.
Mr Kobelke said the State's participation rate continued to be the strongest of all States at 67.5 per cent for November.
The upward trend in total employment continues, with 44,200 more Western Australians in work since the beginning of the year. This is a 4.4 per cent rise - the strongest rate of employment growth of any State and double the national rate of 2.3 per cent.
